Throughout the ages, God's people have always given to God. It begins with the gift of self. In the Old Testament they gave of themselves and also of their goods, goats, sheep, calves and grain to God. There were required offerings for sacrifice, they were to give to the tabernacle a tenth of all and also God gave them opportunities to give free will offerings.
Giving is a matter of the heart. In 2 Corinthians 8:12, the CEV translates, " It doesn't matter how much you have. What matters is how much you are willing to give from what you have." In the early church, they brought their offering as God had prospered them and gave it to the Lord. Paul instructed that our giving be done from the heart and with joy - 2 Corinthians 9:7, " Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."
At Friendship Church, we take an offering during our service so that people can give. Many give cash and checks. Another way of giving in these days is through our website. Anyone who would like to give may do so. This system makes it easy to give through your debit card or credit card. The principle of giving is the same, the manner has been made easy in these days, and the church website is an option.
Since giving is an important aspect of the Christian life and Luke tells that Jesus himself said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35). We want to provide everyone an opportunity to give. Your gift will be used wisely and for the furtherance of God's Kingdom work.
