This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:21-23)
When Thomas Chisholm wrote that great song, “Great is thy Faithfulness,” he had endured a life of poor health and because of that just barely getting by financially. Near the end of his life, he read this wonderful passage in Lamentations and wrote the epic song.
Jeremiah was a prophet that had a tough time. He suffered because he preached the truth to the people and he suffered with the people as Jerusalem was being destroyed by the Babylonians. He suffered much. But during suffering, he remembered the past and God’s mercy to Israel and to him. THAT gave him hope.
You may be going through a dark time in your life. God’s people do face suffering. It may be health, finance, family trouble, etc. Recall in your mind the past and God’s mercy to you in your journey of faith. God saw you through and will again for He is faithful!
